I’ve just finished reading Barnaby Rudge. Written almost 200 years ago, and set during the Gordon Riots of 1780, the parallels with today are remarkable, particularly with regard to mob mentality and frenzy.

Of course, there’s balance to be had and we can’t wrap them up in cotton wool, but I do think society’s behaviours have changed and children are too easily exposed to disfunctionality leading to increased anxiety.

I can remember, in very rare cases, the anxiety when around adults that made me feel unsafe. I think this exposure may now be much wider.

I’ve been thinking about ‘bashing & attacking’ : it’s become prevalent & the norm. When I was a child we were shielded from any cross words; disagreement took place away from our ears. Now children are exposed to this*, how much does adult behaviour account for increase in mental health issues? /2

*Number of pupils with major medical needs
*Number of pupils on reduced timetables at the request of local authorities because no proper specialist provision is available
