Not really the right methodology to check that question, given we don’t use approval voting. This gets us closer. DeWayne would have been quite a bit worse off than Omar given the cast ballots, too many of his votes would have been locked in lower spots on Frey ballots.

Alright here is what different matchups would have looked like if other candidates were in the final round against Frey, broken down by ward.
Jazz and DeWayne would have improved on Omar in wards 8 and 11-13. Omar had the edge everywhere else - especially wards 2, 5, 6, and 10

Thank you, appreciate the response! I think the banking and business expense piece is what I was missing - that this will affect all MN breweries with a THC business, not just the ones who have interstate distribution. Guessing not much/any room for the state to help pave the way there either?

Plenty of sympathy for them. It does seem like relying on a back-door federal drug legalization that no one really intended was a risky business move though. I honestly didn‘t realize we had some shipping out of state until the last few days, figured that was prohibited under the MN law.

Still can’t seem to figure out if this will fully pre-empt the state’s regulatory framework or if it’ll just prevent companies from shipping to other states.

Also the two columns on the right are the *differences between the differences*, as I think that's the relevant comparison here. They are not comparing the vote totals for the two progressive candidates.

(I inverted the difference calculation from how @maxhailperin.bsky.social did it earlier today, so that positive numbers are better for the progressive candidates in the Frey matchups, and better for Omar when compared to Jazz/DeWayne.)

like i've read 4 different articles from today now and they all describe it in completely different ways.

Roger that. And that would be the case even in states where a regulatory framework for hemp-derived THC is in place already? Or just those products when they're placed into interstate commerce?

Yeah I saw that article and it seemed like 5 different people saying 5 different things, which is part of my confusion. I don't really mind if THC-by-mail stuff gets hit, even if there's some MN companies in that sector, b/c that should theoretically help breweries. But full ban obv screws everyone.

genuine Q because I haven't been able to follow all the moving pieces - would this language fully ban hemp-derived THC stuff at the state level? or is it closing the loophole that allowed it to be shipped by mail across state lines and sold in states that haven't otherwise authorized it?

same situation with Jazz, he would have lost by 9,693. with quite a few more exhausted ballots than either Omar/DeWayne in final round.

as a Ward 12er, just ran some quick formulas on the CVR and it looks like 50.4%-42.1% for Frey. 54.5%-45.5% if you pull out the exhausted ballots. a bit of a bummer, will be interested to see if there were different areas that embraced the rank 3 strategy more fully.

not sure how concentrated you’re looking for, but 1-3 has Bottineau Commons and there was always a solid Somali presence on caucus night when i shared a precinct there
