He/him, 29, gay, dragon.
I'm Phoenix, aspiring fantasy author with many stories to share. Stay a while and join me, just don't touch the hoard!
Currently querying my first novel: Cloudrend and the Hidden Face
19. Challenging parts of writing
For me it's exposition. I struggle with that ever-present problem: I know exactly what's going to happen, but I need to write it in a way that both feels natural and explains things sufficiently, but not excessively.
Makes my head hurt.

18. Favourite characters I've created
Honestly, these two goofballs. Jynrahd and Trikk really are like the two sides of my personality given form and I love them both individually and together.
To think they started as entirely unrelated DnD character sheets...

17. Hobbies
My biggest pastime away from the google doc is DnD. I enjoy both playing and running games, and they have really helped contribute to and build my fantasy settings.
I also play video games, read, occasionally draw and look after my bearded dragon.

16. Plotter vs Pantser
I'm a lawful plantser. I plan my story in bullet points and then write those points, allowing whatever works to happen between them.
Though I could never start without the plan, hence the lawful part.

14. Post your pets
Any chance to gush over her!
This is a Tiamat. Baby Tea. Teacup. Teacake. Tealeaf. Teatree. Etc.
I finally fulfilled my dream of owning a bearded dragon when I brought her home in August. In a few short months, she's grown up and become a fiesty friend!

13. Where I write
I'll confess: I'm one of those public writer types who writes on his laptop in cafes. I've never been asked about my book, as much as I secretly wish someone would.
While I still look young enough to conceivably be a student I don't think anyone will judge.

12. Writing advice
The best writing advice I've ever been given is don't write for a publicist, or an audience, or a demographic at first. The one person you should write for is yourself. If you're enjoying the storytelling process, the rest will fall into place in time.

11. Genres written and read
I pretty exclusively write fantasy - it's where I'm most comfortable expressing ideas. I've dabbled in horror and murder mystery to varyied levels of success as well.
As for reading, same as above, though I also enjoy light-hearted sci-fi.

Aha! My buzzword! Here's a cosy friend moment based loosely on an interaction I genuinely had with a friend IRL.

7. What helps me relax
Very little, if I'm honest. Autism and ADHD is a spicy combo that makes truly switching off difficult.
But nothing helps me unwind like reading or drawing in my front room with a cup of tea, hanging out with my bearded dragon - who is also called Tea. 🥰

6. Helpful writing tools
A bit left field, but I find Notion to be a really useful tool for worldbuilding. Fantasy worlds have a ton of rules and related elements that a mind like mine finds hard to keep in place.
Notion helps me keep track.
(I sound like a youtuber, huh)

4. Something GREEN
The Wind Mother, Loftin, left behind his cloak of magical enhancement to Sintadil College. Both the cloak and the college are green, with the college's most qualified mages wearing green robes.
The little fella who inherits the cloak is also green!

4. Inspiring Authors
My initial inspiration to write for myself was Yahtzee Croshaw's Mogworld. I hope to shake his hand one day.
There's also Travis Baldree, Robin Hobb and She Who Must Not Be Named, though I now vehemently disown any spark she ever gave me. Such a shame.

3. Something YELLOW
After besting the undead wielder in battle, Jynrahd becomes the Earth Inheritor and rightfully wearer of Jurdr's Plate. It is an unmatched set of dark yellow plate armour capable of manipulating earth and stone and grants the wearer incredible strength.

Boy it would be nice to have Spotify, huh.
Traveller's Song is all I need.

2. When did I start writing?
Shortly before the pandemic hit. I still lived with my parents and remember going up to my room after the 'you must stay at home' announcement in March 2020. I said, "Welp, time to dust off a project to keep myself sane!"
Turns out, I'm hooked.

1. Hi!
My name's Phoenix. I'm a dragon sat atop a hoard of stories and blorbos, hoping to one day add my own name to the pile.
My WIP is the Cloudrend series, currently on book 2, a cosy epic fantasy inspired by my many D&D escapades.
Come sit beneath my wings!
