In fact, Southwark was building new school places a decade after Heygate was decanted. COVID was the real turning point in Inner London school numbers.

Austerity & cost of living are the big factors - couples having to wait later until they can afford to have families (if at all).

Seems poorly thought through, particularly regarding Heygate - the last families left the estate 15 years ago. Many of the primary school age children who moved off the estate will be parents themselves by now!

School numbers in Southwark went up for another 6 years afterwards.
