DePodesta’s tenure will hinge on ownership buy-in and discipline. Who knows there. If nothing else, give him this much: he sure has a penchant for picking jobs where he’s likely to cash a ton of checks before ever having to produce on-the-field results.

Keep in mind this isn’t the “Moneyball” era anymore: teams aren’t concerned with the art of winning an unfair game, these days it’s all about the science of mastering it.
