The UK is one of 95 countries that have banded together at the Nice ocean summit to call for an ambitious plastic pollution treaty later this year

The group wants a target for reducing plastic use -something big oil states don't want - rather than just more recycling

Now for Geneva talks in Aug

Anyone else noticed that the ‘countdown’ system appears to have been disabled in many parts of London? Anyone know how many days it will last? Important for bus bus users. @sebdance.bsky.social ?

Recent Supreme Court judgement on definition of sexes in equality law has implications for local authorities in London (and elsewhere). These were highlighted at a meeting of Hackney Council's cabinet yesterday evening. I went along. Here's my report: www.onlondon.co.uk/news-hackney.... #london
Hackney urged to review equalities stance
The Mayor said implications of recent Supreme Court judgment will be taken on board and 'open dialogue' about the issues raised encouraged

(1/3) It needs repeating: in 1994, Ukraine was persuaded to give up its nuclear weapons to Russia in return for the US, the UK, and Russia guaranteeing Ukraine’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.

This graphic of a proposed new town resembles Stevenage town centre from the 50’s. There is very little cycling in Stevenage in 2025. The press release says little about pedestrians other than a vague commitment to improved crossings. (Out of the TFL playbook. Disappointing).

Sea ice extent in the Bering Sea is about 35 percent below the 1991-2020 median for Feb 08 in NSIDC data. There's likely four to seven weeks before the maximum ice extent, but it's quite likely that the late winter/spring ice extent in the Bering will be the lowest since 2019. #akwx #Arctic #SeaIce

For some reason, the Times of London decided to use "dollar millionaires" (just over £800,000) just so it could exaggerate the number of millionaires leaving. This is the type of sleight of hand that their vg data journalists would unpick well if somebody else was spinning away in this way

Whatever the validity of new Inrix congestion data, this TfL graph is striking. High hopes were expressed during the pandemic, which began 5 years ago, that it would have a silver lining in the form of far more "active travel" compared with car use in #London.

@laurapaschoal.bsky.social really don’t want to provoke an argument, but even on bluesky it must be OK to express a contrary view?
