Till the day that we meet again, I'll be typing and deleting my endlessly evolving thoughts and feelings on this game.
Looking ahead to 2025, I want to offer my thanks to everyone that made 2024 another one worth being around for, despite all the sorrow and hardship!

It's a character study - it's right there in the name. So many of its flourishes should not work - pixel art, electronic music, points?? - and yet they come together to solidify Indika as a person In Ways Only Games Can. Loved its surrealist, magical fiction bent toward the end, too.

Revisited the first half hour of this last night to confirm how well it holds up.
An outstanding work. I walked away thinking it was a bit too long - the notes you don't play and all that. But my lord, the presentation does so much to bring this thing home. And that *music*.

Those vistas, dude. Like *what*
Every time I finish a FromSoft game, I proclaim I'm done with their formula. But if they keep making games this atmospherically rich, I'll probably never stop.

Too long, and its back-half gimmicks (puzzles? shooter sequence???) muck up its themes. But Mouthwashing is positively dripping with atmosphere in ways few other games can manage. Every scene change had me on the edge of my seat. Curious to see what this dev does next!

When I sat down with Balatro's demo back in January, I knew it was special. I could never have anticipated what it would become for so many.
Balatro did not entice me to keep going much past my first clear; too sparse for my liking. But *getting* that first clear? *chef's kiss*

Another one I've yet to finish. I think almost every aspect of this is incredibly overrated (writing, music, aesthetic, characters, etc.) But its calendar loop and combat have their hooks in me. I just wish it weren't so verbose for how little of import it has to say.

Admittedly, I did not finish this. Big mistake! Crunchy, tactile characters (and FMVs!!!), surprisingly fun combat, folk tales/hymns out the wazoo, mythos, Judero just plain has it all (except my completion of it). Jack King-Spooner one of the best doing it.

You're sayin' they put a house in this lake???
Remedy are some of the best doing it, and this put my nerves about their much flaunted connected universe at ease. They know what they're doing with this and I walked away more excited about Control 2 than before.

1. Buckshot Roulette - Shotgun shawty
2. Silent Hill 2 R - Worse than the original in every single way (yes, even performances). BUT it sounds incredible - and this is how Silent Hill should *look* in 2024
3. Astro Bot - 2025 goal: death to sugary-sweet nostalgia.

It's true what they say: an utter classic. Pitch-perfect pacing, variety of locations and scenarios, fun characters, impeccable music. A Final Fantasy for fans and first-timers.

But first: BEST OLD GAME
PHANTOM LIBERTY
2023 was the year I got way into Cyberpunk. By January, I had cleared every single side gig or whatever, and embarked upon Phantom Liberty.
I consider the PL ending to be Cyberpunk's true denouement: everything you knew, gone.
