'Mother of Pearl' - Roxy Music

A little late to the party, but this 1983 record started me on my journey into clever, hook-laden pop bands like The Smiths, Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, The Housemartins, among others. Roddy Frame was just 16 when he recorded this.

The comments under these Minneapolis stories at Daily Mail online are so vile and disturbing.

Cynthia still looks fantastic at 69 years old. 🌹

Leo also co-wrote the majority of that first Roger Daltry solo record. Solid career for a kinda odd, unassuming fella. Thanks for the reminder! 👍

Tommy wins the thread.

I'm on-board with all of this. 🌹

I'm pretty tired of listening to this Rubio fella...😐

Vile hobgoblins. I heard her interview with Anderson last night and was brought to tears. Very brave woman.❤️🌹

Incredible band. Incredible body of work.

Such an underrated band. Great post!

This was such a great single. 'Welcome to the Pleasuredome' was on my turntable constantly in 1984. The only time it came off was to play 'Ocean Rain' by those other Liverpool boys or 'Mirror Moves' by Psych Furs...

Indeed. 😐

I believe this to be true.

The Orange Goblin is such a sad and pathetic mud human....

I can't imagine anyone can beat that as their very first concert. Fantastic. 🌹

Excellent piece, Daniel.

Sweet guitar. Jazzmaster?

Man, I love this record. I can't imagine how many times I've listened to it! ❤️

'Dub Housing' (1978) and 'New Picnic Time' (1979) are both excellent. Weird and abrasive. 'The Tenement Year's (1988) is a little easier to digest for some. A massive body of work. 👍

Another splendid George Clinton-produced record. My buddy's dad was a big Bootsy fan from his James Brown days, so I heard this not long after it was released. So very good!

That was a lot of fun. Looking forward to the results!

Very well said regarding this single and her entire career. I didn't start to 'get it' until "The Dreaming" and then "Hounds of Love" captured me and never let me go. The only other artist I had a similar progression with was Pete Ubu. In other words, it took me a bit.
