Unfortunately, in US journalism it is considered neutral to spread a lie, but it is considered "biased" to call out a lie. So, there is a structural asymmetry that rewards colorful lies with virality.

Why be so focused on the “dramatic” people? If our house is on fire do we really need to completely agree on many rooms are blazing? That’s not the most important issue here. The spreading fire is.

Exactly.

Sounds like “confronting the far scarier problem of authoritarian backsliding that is already in motion” is a much more useful topic to discuss for weeks on end than focusing on folks who don’t see the difference between being governed by fascists and living in a fascist country. But that’s just me.
