(increasing stresses on ED staff who must continue to provide care for patients needing ICU level, 1:1 care very often). Dunedin ED wait times often exceed 9 hours. How is this going to result in an efficient and functional hospital? It's not!

I was looking at this today, the current hospital has 24 ICU beds, the proposed one will have 20 (with capacity, which will require extra funding to actualise)... one of the biggest impactors on ED waiting times is having no capacity for patients to move to ICU

or 2 RM overnight, meaning when we go off ward we leave the other RM alone, with potentially 12 dyads (more if twins), and any support required for labouring whanau. "Flexi beds" are ridiculous!

When we were given our new (15ish years old now) hospital, we were reduced from 4 antenatal beds + 6 postnatal beds to just 6 postnatal beds, with the option of flexi beds on other wards. Staff need to go off ward to provide care, putting other patients and staff at risk! Key staffing 2 RM + 1RN.
