And this Little Free Library surprised me.

But I did get to visit this little ceramics studio, which was full of super cute things. I needed a couple new pots, as one of my succulents is desperately putting out air roots, so I was happy to pick up a couple here at Kuzeh studio.

These two buildings host more than 25 artists studios and shops, as well as a Saturday farmers market and various other makers' markets. I knew the hours for the shops were sporadic, but I was honestly a little disappointed by just how many of them were closed on this Friday afternoon.

The third and final destination of this mini-adventure is the Brookland Arts Walk, which I watched go by out of the window of the Metro train every day for years during my commute, and never once actually got off the train to check it out.

The interior is dark and intimate, with bright pops of color everywhere and inclusive messaging. I thought I'd order one of their proprietary cocktails to go with my apple and brie sandwich, but...

Here we find as you are., one of the city's only lesbian-specific spaces. Cafe by day, bar and event space by night, AYA has been through a lot since it opened. On this Friday afternoon, it is surprisingly busy. Multiple coworking groups are set up, and a lot of locals drop by just to hang out.

Eastern Market has some things to say.

Next stop is Eastern Market. A funky little part of Capitol Hill, and... oh, fuck off.

Side note: I absolutely love the architecture of the downtown Metro stops.

The fourth floor contains permanent exhibits on DC, MLK, and MLK's activities in DC (including his work on DC Home Rule).

The rooftop is open and beautifully landscaped. To get there, I passed through a conference space hosting a women in public policy networking event.

Other floors contain reading rooms, separate book collections for kids and teens, meeting spaces, maker spaces, and computer labs. There's even an office dedicated to helping people apply for passports. And *look* at these gorgeous staircases.

But since then, it has become a thriving hub of classes, services, and resources.

Inside, visitors are greeted with rotating exhibits, co-working spaces, and info desks. Today, there was a large exhibit on DC's underground arts scene past and present.

MLK Library was the city's first memorial to the great civil rights leader, intended as a community space and shared resource. Over the years, it fell into disrepair, until the city decided to spend millions on a full renovation. That renovation opened... in 2020. Unfortunate.

Trump took absolutely the wrong message from this movie.

Sometimes I leave the house on weeknights. Not often, but sometimes. And getting to see Martha Wells talk about her new book releasing *today* is one of those times.

But how can you resist when he looks like this?

The Japanese American Memorial to Patriotism During World War II (there is such a thing!) is covered in quotes about how the internment policy was morally wrong and must never be repeated. It's literally across the street from the Capitol grounds.

I don't really have the words to explain how much it means to me to have seen Vienna Teng perform in Bryn Mawr tonight, more than 20 years after I first saw her here. She's fucking transcendent live. She always has been. How can you not fall in love with her?

Heeeeeey guess where I am?

Let us call this a reward for making it to Friday.

Anyway, the vibes, as they say, are immaculate here in DC.
