This is still the greatest thing. Children in the Gorbals protesting the closure of their adventure playground, "the venny". Organised with the help of Matt McGinn, folk singer and teacher!
would like to see a bit more of us teachers saying things like “given the current state of education I am unable to meet the needs of all the children in my class” rather than denying the needs exist, or making borderline eugenic statements about core “attitudes” to learning.

Children protesting is my favourite thing!❤️

I really have thought hard about making my classroom as calming as possible. The children who use it, their nervous systems need soothing!

I noticed today, and then reflected on it, when other adults or more regulated children use it they often become quite sleepy. It works!

The practice of #restorativejustice changes lives but the courage and strength to forgive what seems unforgiveable is EXACTLY why it is so difficult.

The power of relationships. Short 🧵

A child I work with had a wee moment and ended up in the playground when they weren’t meant to be. My school recognised that this child needed support and I have spent a lot of time with them overcoming barriers and building a relationship.

I work with children who struggle in school for myriad reasons. In my experience one of the biggest barriers to addressing their struggle is convincing them it’s worth it. That they’re worth it!

Is there any research, preferably based on the views of the learners and people who attended, of what happens after someone attends alternative provision? What are the outcomes?

I’m glad we organised @glacritped.bsky.social because if getting raging at liberal teachers on Twitter was all I did I would have become (and was becoming) heavy depressed.
If you want to avoid an echo chamber organise a workplace or a tenants' union around a common cause or campaign for more investment or against spending cuts or mobilise against fascists in your community. Talking to hostile horrible people online won't cut it.

It may be that lots of people don't yet realise that the national conversatns Scotland has had around ACEs for the past 2 decades helped the Scottish Sentencing Council decide to issue a Guideline (in 2022) about sentencing young people. @aceawarenation.bsky.social

Started listening to “black skin, white masks” by Frantz Fanon on the run commute today. What he said about accent and dialect made me think of 6th year in high school when I went to this pre-uni engineering 3 day camp thing. monoskop.org/images/a/a5/Fa…

This Scottish government have released guidance on physical intervention in Scottish schools. It’s well worth a read.

““There is no legal process for authorising a deprivation of liberty in a school context”
