I'm president of the John F. Kennedy High School PTSA and a Leadership Council member for the Black Coalition for Excellence in Education (BCEE).
I looked at this plan for Lakeforest Mall's redevelopment (which was my childhood mall) and it looked nice but felt like every other town center in #MoCo. We need to pursue development that feels unique and has community character: mocoshow.com/2025/11/24/t...

"Today’s education system remains more concerned with adult employment than with student achievement. It pays little attention to differences in teacher and school effectiveness."

This is so disheartening. I support Donesha Price speaking out on behalf of her child and #MCPS students and staff. These conditions are unacceptable and not consistent the system's obligations to provide a safe learning environment: wjla.com/news/local/m...

I support @bnhowe.bsky.social's call for transparency as #MCPS scrambles to clean up its background check/CPS clearance non-compliance:

"I would like to see a monthly report, publicly shared by the school system, that gives their progress on that," Howe added.

Tucked into this piece about Melissa Hortman and the role of state reps was this nugget from @joshkurtznews.bsky.social: "I’d argue that the state is reaching the point where it might be better-served by a full-time legislature, with vastly bigger staffs."

This is an important article from @washingtonpost.com that does the deep, intricate work of connecting the interdependent issues of chronic absenteeism, school safety and security, the lack of accountability in public education and juvenile crime. Please read it: wapo.st/3FWu7pY
How D.C.’s failure to curb truancy fueled a surge in youth crime
District leaders linked school attendance to crime, but failure to reduce absenteeism in middle schools yielded the biggest youth crime surge in a generation.

I appreciated this in-depth piece from Bethesda Today on the state of what USED to be the marquee mall in #MoCo, Montgomery Mall: bethesdamagazine.com/2025/06/04/w...

As a '90s kid, I'll always have a soft spot for malls, but they clearly need to figure out a new reason-for-being to survive.
From Bethesda Magazine: What’s happening at Westfield Montgomery mall?
Since opening its doors in 1968, Westfield Montgomery mall has seemingly survived it all, from a pandemic to changes in tenants.
