Here's another opinion to consider - 'With Carney at the helm, Canada is building railroads, deep water ports, infrastructure, and international alliances to own the top of the world'

To my fellow 🇨🇦 and 🇺🇸 friends. Kipling's IF seems appropriate for the double plus ungood times:

"If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;

Alcohol is being taken off the shelves in Canada and sent back to American liquor companies.

It’s consignment. They don’t pay for it until it has been sold.

I'm old enough to remember railing against then 🇨🇦PM Mulroney's free trade agreement with the USA. Irish eyes were smiling at a 'sing along' with Reagan as Canada turned trade away from East-West and towards North-South. Always wary of the elephant.

And therein lies the problem.... learning, aka being open to new ideas, is essential to good teaching.
If your experience as a student is passive, accepting whatever teachers give you, then, ya teaching is totally different.
If you're an active critical thinker then new things aren't a threat.
Why is it easier to get a student to write a poem than to convince a teacher bestie to use your time-saving techniques? Because we’re teachers, not learners!

Ruts and Grooves
In a rut time drags
In a groove time flows
In a rut lies despair
In a groove lies hope
A rut controls
A groove liberates
A rut is a trap
A groove is a choice
A rut feels safe
A groove feels risky

Thanks for sharing. It's now on my reading list. Love the premise.

A few years ago there was a CBC radio show called Morning Side. They asked listeners to complete the phrase "As Canadian as ..."
Heather Scott answered the challenge with "... possible under the circumstances."

If you value education that puts:

Curiosity over compliance
Equity over efficiency
Collaboration over competition
Learning over teaching

Let's make School better - for each person every day

To do this, prepare for battle with the status quo and be proud to be labeled an outcast.
If you're making real change, people will push back. If you haven't made any enemies in this business then you aren't pushing hard enough.

"A teacher who is attempting to teach without inspiring the pupil with a desire to learn is hammering on cold iron" by Horace Mann, highlights the importance of inspiring students to learn.
Effective teaching involves engaging students with the subject matter not making better test takers.

The video clip in the next message is from the 2009 Star Trek movie.
It shows a young Spock at school. Isolated in a pod surrounded by constantly changing video screens and reciting facts.
