Yes, worth a go.
Quick test is to try bending a piece of the filament, most thermoplastics should still bend at least 45 degrees without snapping. If it’s like dry spaghetti and snaps then it’s probably not worth trying in a printer.

It’ll absorb moisture from the air. Some PLS’s become very brittle and some are not UV stable.
You can resurrect some old PLA’s in the oven at 40C for several hours.
ABS in sunlight can be useless after only ~6 months.
Nylon absorbs the most moisture, dry before every use.

It was the best RepRap 3D printer I ever built. Great accuracy and perfect Z-layer alignment. I used Sli3DR for many years and still have it. I would love to see a large scale version.
