Wish we could leave Notepad, of all things, unscathed by AI "features". I'll accept it in MSPaint, though. To use the AI features, you need to sign into your Microsoft account. One interesting thought here; is Microsoft positioning Notepad for synchronization, in a similar way to Apple's Notes App?

So http/1.1 performs better than http/2 in apache2 mod_ssl, using keepalives. By 300mbps tx and rx, how I measured anyway. I think we knew this already?

Imagine Deep Research, but with the credentials of journal paywall subscriptions to add even more source capabilities. I think this is doable. Kinda possible with Operator right now in a hackish way. Would be cool to give it Bitwarden master and let it go do its thing also.

The Core Values page of the NSA.gov site ended up getting deleted (January 24th). The only word I could find that was banned was "diverse" on the Wayback machine for the page. They forgot to remove the link to Core Values from the Site Policies page in the footer.

Why would SSLVPN Inactivity Time set the expiry for TCP packets that hit the SSLVPN port? Esp unauthenticated session? This is causing a resource exhaustion on a SonicWall TZ500 I am looking at where it takes a coule hours for connections to hit 125k and have to clear conn manually.

I'm really finding the Hugo content adapters fun to play with. I've converted a Python implementation I used for scraping a website's JSON and generating a static HTML file, into a Hugo content adapter and it is fast. 70.5sec vs 42ms

Machines are not efficient, processes are.

Generative AI doesn't "know".

Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react.

Over, not under.

I saw a JCS video notification yesterday on YouTube and couldn't figure out why I couldn't find it tonight. Then I saw that it was AI voice and got to hear a bit of the video they pulled or made private... And now I understand why people are upset. I was so excited too. :(

How many times in life do we change what our favorite Christmas movie is? For the past 30 years, mine has been It’s a Wonderful Life, but now my new favorite is Die Hard.

Korzybski walks into a bar, corrects the bartender: "I didn't walk; I ambulated", and spends 20 minutes debating whether "happy hour" was an accurate time descriptor.

What's the preference on threaded view for replies? I like it here, but not in email. One thing I'd like is a way to collapse all to start, or at least collapse each nested reply as I go. I guess similar to how HackerNews implements it.

I just submitted my paper on Quantum Machine Learning for Multi-Dimensional Optimization in High-Dimensional Quantum Systems to my 11 year old for peer review. 🤞

Predicting the scenes/outcomes of Hallmark movies was a gateway drug to Crime TV and probably why I'm solving cases before the first commercial break these days. I do still revisit my original mentor for about a month once per year for a skills refresher.
Let's not fix what isn't broken...

The simplicity of this platform, at least the public facing side, is nice. I wonder what it looks like behind the scenes.

Earned my first block on BlueSky tonight. How should I celebrate? It was related to ChatGPT and academia... lol

I didn't use the Twitter app even though I registered March 2007. Except when Facebook was down. How do I find the Hacker News crowd here?

Pretty easy to do. Not that I need to self-verify as I'm not an official organization or brand, but it's something to do on a Saturday night.

💡 Tip: You can set your website as your username on Bluesky!

This is one form of self-verification, and we especially encourage official organizations and brands to do this! Examples include @npr.org @react.dev @duolingobrasil.com.br.

Here's our guide for how to do this:

Moved from iOS to Android this last week. It's been about Samsung S7 device years since I've been on Android device, which is now the Pixel 9 Pro. I have 97 characters left but I'm out of nothing to say.
