That's probably where I got the idea. I saw it as a little kid and was totally mesmerised.

It feels like I sometimes see (or smell) something during these mental ramblings that I only later discover through research was truly there, but that must just be my mind playing tricks on me, of course.

By now I can pretty much mentally walk a vivid full block around long-gone Noble/Sylver St, Muggle St, the almshouses and Curriers/Plasterers Halls on Wood St, up to Cripplegate and along London Wall. If I'm lucky, the walk will tire me out & I'll fall asleep near Bassett's Inn on Gayspur Lane.

If BBC, maybe The Late Show?

Hm. Not sure. Can't find anything on Genome. Maybe Ch4? I remember the Nonesuch Górecki's Symphony No. 3 coming out and being everywhere - that was in 1992/93.

Just a game show, yes, but the existential implications of people being so absurdly, consistently wrong (all the celebs, not just Olusoga) is unsettlingly Sartrean. Shades of Kafka and Milgram. Now I'll need to watch something lighter, less disheartening, like a Bergman or Tarkovsky film

I can trace a direct line back to 1205 and, via a marriage into the Tudor/Tewdwr line, a connection to Henry VI and VII, back to 1030.

I have to trick myself into it.

Works so much better without the 'yes', and with the casual leg up.

Thanks, I wasn't sure of the source. I read it secondhand - Alan Bennett recounted it in his diaries.

Reminds me of a Peter Cook line:
In reply to someone telling him they were writing a book, he said, "Yes, neither am I".
