It also misses the fact that China definitely does want Taiwan, and yet it hasn't managed to take it.

The US doesn't have any military bases in Taiwan...

If they really valued reunification over all else, that's clearly what they would do.

Because contrary to what Xi Jingping says, Taiwan is not the property of the People's Republic of China, and never has been.

In terms of armed forces though, Taiwan and China are much closer.
Taiwan's total active and reserve forces have ~1.8 million personnel.
China's have ~2.5 million.

Well, the Supreme Court ruled it legal for the president to commit crimes, so it's hard to say…

This comes shortly after Netanyahu's blaming of the Bondi Beach shooting on the recognition of the State of Palestine.

Clearly Trump didn't want to be outdone.

Somehow this is still a better response than Netanyahu's response to the Bondi Beach shooting...

I'm assuming they did, and that's why it's in the paper!

There was actually a Quincy episode later that same year where someone committed a murder using a car, but made it look like a drink-driving accident.

In the UK, typical baseline insurance is "3rd-party, fire and theft".
So you're covered if someone else steals your car, but you avoid overpaying as long as you make sure not to cause an accident yourself.

True, the treatment costs in the UK would usually be £0.

(Though it will still need to cover other injury-related costs, if any.)

In the UK, speeding offences are mostly automated, with speed cameras and fines that arrive through the mail.

It's easily solvable if there were a will to do so.

And yet the UK has cheaper insurance already.
Clearly something needs fixing in California.

Average annual cost of car insurance in the UK: £735 (~US$980).

It's wild that in California you're only required to have insurance covering up to $75,000.
In the UK the minimum is £1.2 million (~US$1.6 million).

Even so, it makes the cost of installing the device relatively insignificant.
December 12, 2025 at 7:13 PM
If the current costs of a DUI are already around $18,000, then the cost of installing an ignition-interlock device doesn't seem that bad.

Actually a bargain if it stops you getting another DUI.

Labour received more than 9 million votes at the last election.
Reform has less than 300,000 members.
So what does it matter?

I assumed this was a parody of that?

No, comparatively Reagan is like an angel when you compare him to Trump.

It’s his end of the month infusion…seriously, always the last week of a month he’s all bruised. Could it be coincidence that the newest Alzheimer’s treatment is a monthly infusion called Kisunla?

Wells Fargo wouldn't even let me have a credit card when I was still on an H1B visa, but I'm sure undocumented immigrants will have no problem getting a mortgage.

How about being more like Taiwan instead, which also didn't have any lockdown in 2020?
Oh, and it also had <100 covid cases and single-digit deaths.
