Passionate about using mass spectrometry for studying disease. Clinical mass spectrometry (bioactive peptides and proteins) in the day, average triathlete in my spare time!
Orbital Astrals and ZenoToFs are cool and all... But do you have Mass Specs??

Have a good weekend everyone!

Have done that and we get a match for the de-glycosylated peptide (strong signal too) I just can't find the glycosylated one. Have even drawn up some theoretical structures of the peptide to try identify peaks..

I have a clearly glycosylated peptide, which I think is an elusive peptide I am after, but it gives almost no peptide fragments. I asked ChatGPT for some help interpreting glycopeptide MS/MS spectra, it generated this abomination.. I think our jobs are secure for a little longer yet...

The 1031.58 ion is a dimer of 516, which shows up if it is selected for MS/MS.

Oh dear... Luckily not my instrument!

Seems it can do it. HR zones tell you more detail on effort used etc...

Happy world bike day! 19 mile bike followed by a 5km run with the Ely Tri Club gang. Nice end to the day.

It is World Bicycle Day today!!! Glorious but windy here in the Fens. Get out and pedal if you can. Great for fitness and mental health!

Typical.. first time we have had a partial solar eclipse and it's really sunny here in the UK.

Thank heavens for Skymaps..

Mad that so many planets are in view.. maybe the fifth element will be needed soon...

Winners of the amino acid quiz at the CamsPaMS Ion Exchange got a unique prize..

A tin of Alphabetti Spaghetti...

Rimmer would not be happy!

The first CamsPaMS evening session - The Ion Exchange went off with a bang last night. An amino acid based quiz and ice breaker followed by a proteomics talk and then gut hormone peptidomics talk.

The knitted gut went down well!

Look out for the next one!

Don't have a phase in mind - but "Hobson's Choice" is a good local brew in Cambridge!

Using our plasma proteomics method, we detected #leptin in the plasma of most of the volunteers (~1-10 ng/mL), and it correlated nicely with BMI.

We presented this at the #BMSS and #BSPR 2024 meeting last year.

Would be interesting to know how many injections other groups get out of columns in plasma peptidomics / proteomics experiments?

There are some huge studies out there looking at thousands of samples - how long do columns last? Share your experiences!! #proteomics #peptidomics #teammassspec

Fen run this morning, shoulder is getting better (can now lift it past the Musk angle).

Saw a family of deer in the field, and found a good puddle to clean off the mud.

Just spent 30 minutes in an MRI machine. We are looking to measure gut peptides and see how they correlate with gut movement.

Was really warm - and I fell asleep! 😂

I was a "healthy control" 😂

Frosty run in Ely today. Love running in the Fens.

The @ims-mrl.bsky.social #peptidomics and #proteomics core out for a last coffee and cake at the astrazeneca coffee shop before Christmas.

Have a good one all!

Had a great day at the Belgian Proteomics Association 2024 meeting in Ghent yesterday. Presented our #GDF15 pregnancy story.

Thanks to Waters for the support!

Went for a run this morning - Ghent is beautiful - loving the Christmas decorations!

Captured this photo on the train back from DMDG large molecules course. This os the floodplain which prevents the Fens from flooding.

One of the good things about living in the Fens... Awesome sunrises and sunsets!
