How would you play those at the time? With a cd-i player device hooked to your tv? Any computer with a cd drive and a software player would do?

We can see it in professional athletes for some sports. After years of focusing their physical abilities in a small set of movements they seem to be in good shape, but suffer from numerous health problems after all that developed "efficiency" for said sport.
