I was shuffling the Stone Roses albums on my night walk tonight and Your Star Will Shine came on, hurltling me back to the Boars Head when I was a teenager learning the art of afternoon drinking with Rafe et al. Man I was happy then, the type of happiness you can only really have when you're young.

A bit of a weird side door entry into Dumas' catalogue but this book really fucked

Ambition is like the vault of heaven; it appears to be bounded by the horizon, but it covers the whole earth - A. Dumas.

If anybody is wondering what's happened to my drawing practice I'm currently following a very long court case so am spending my lunch hours in the public gallery. I hope to get back to drawing practice in 2026!

Was sad to hear of the passing of Marina Lewycka. I always respected her after watching a piece on a TV show where she revealed she wrote in bed. I've had her Ukrainian tractor book on my shelf for years - I will read it in 2026.

I swear I get possessed by an 80 year old woman at midnight - why else would I have just bought these?

Heard some great writing advice from Jonathan Franzen today. "Take a hard look at every sentence. Shake it. Shake it again. I guarantee you, it can be better."

I watched One Battle for a 2nd time yesterday & loved it even more. The cast and pacing are electrifying, the Jonny Greenwood score is insanely beautiful and the final car chase demonstrates an audacious mastery of the craft, but Benico del Toro steals it for me. What a character, what a performance

I absolutely loved Don't Delete the Kisses as soon as I heard it, and the same is true of Leaning Against the Wall. Ellie Rowsell writes about love so vulnerably, beautifully and novelistically. I think she'd write a banging 180 page novel.

I love finding random things in the pages of second hand books but I've struck gold this time. A four leaf clover!

Had a great time helping out at the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences conference at the Millennium Stadium this week and was very touched and happy that the team bought me this awesome Lego plum blossom. These trees bloom in winter and remind us that even in the darkest times there is beauty.
