Born into a Quaker family in Oyster Bay, New York, Wright moved with her parents to Bordentown, New Jersey, during childhood. She married Joseph Wright, a cooper, in 1748. After his sudden death in 1769—when she was pregnant with their fifth child—Patience turned her childhood pastime into her livelihood. Alongside her sister Rachel, she began crafting wax portraits in cities like New York and Philadelphia, charging admission to her innovative waxworks. In 1771 a fire destroyed most of her sculptural work, prompting Wright to relocate to London. There, boosted by a letter of introduction from Benjamin, she quickly established herself, and became a talking point in London society. Wright received commissions for royal and noble portraits, including William Pitt the Elder, whose life-sized wax effigy still resides at Westminster Abbey. Some of her surviving works also include busts of Benjamin Franklin and George Washington, held at prestigious institutions like the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Amidst her public success, Wright maintained her patriotism—using her studio to support American prisoners of war in London and allegedly smuggling intelligence back to the colonies via hidden letters in wax figures. In 1780 she briefly opened a studio in Paris before returning to London in 1782. In 1786, while preparing to return to the United States, she suffered a fatal fall. Only one of her sculptures—her wax effigy of Lord Chatham—survives today.

The many ways people are resisting #ICE
Guys are signing up for ice, going thru the entire background and hiring process and then not showing up for work on the first day. Women are going on dates with La Migra profiles and getting photos of their unmasked faces, then dumping them. White women are putting Mexican flag stickers on their cars just to waste La Migra time. Neighbors are taking their children to school or picking up groceries to minimize exposure time. Guys are following La Migra vehicles and calling tow trucks that are standing by to tow away improperly parked vehicles. Entire neighborhoods get out and walk around the blocks, crossing streets and using crosswalks to impede La Migra vehicle patrols near schools and churches. People use whistles and bullhorns to notify others where La Migra is. If they find the hotel they are staying, some play Mexican music loudly at 2am and 3 am.. La Migra need to find public restrooms because Private businesses refuse them service. Door dash drivers delay deliveries or delay notification that their food is not coming. Terrorists and bullies look for victims not opponents. They want surrender. They fear opposition. Cowards will never understand courage. Courage is as foreign to a coward as love and faith.

Elizabeth Freeman (“Mumbet”) (1744–1829) - Freedom Seeker and Early Abolitionist Elizabeth Freeman, known as “Mum Bet,” was born enslaved in New York around 1744. She later lived in Massachusetts and was enslaved to Cl. John Ashley, a wealthy, and prominent Revolutionary War leader, who helped draft the State’s Declaration of rights, which included “All men are born free and equal, and have certain natural, essential, and unalienable rights.”. One day, the Colonel’s wife struck Mum Bet with a burning shovel for protecting her sister. Mum Bet openly wore the resulting scar on her arm in quiet defiance; it would also be evidence in the suit Mum Bet filed against her enslaver. In 1781, with the help of lawyer Theodore Sedgwick, Mum Bet and another enslaved man named Brom sued for their freedom — and won. The argument was revolutionary: Massachusetts's new constitution declared all men free and equal. Slavery contradicted this fundamental principle. Therefore, slavery was illegal in Massachusetts, and Mum Bet and Brom should be freed. Her landmark case, Brom and Bett v. Ashley, became a key precedent that helped end slavery in Massachusetts, making her one of the first enslaved women to gain freedom through legal action. After the verdict, Mum Bet chose a new name for her new life: Elizabeth Freeman. Elizabeth Freeman's case set legal precedent that helped end slavery in Massachusetts. Two years later, the Quock Walker case (1783) cemented the constitutional argument against slavery, and Massachusetts became one of the first states where slavery was effectively abolished. Freeman then went to work for the Sedgwick family, became a respected midwife and nurse, and owned her own home — a rare achievement for women of her time. Her bravery and belief in equality helped lay the groundwork for the abolition movement in America. She lived until 1829, dying at approximately 85 years old.
