Sending sympathy, since I don’t know you well enough for even virtual hugs.

Dinner (spag bol) is simmering so I can relax for a bit with a whisky & ginger while we chat to SiL (online) over small nephew’s bathtime, which has become the family evening tradition. #ConfinedCocktails

Growing up in Edinburgh I always heard ‘Louie’.

Display curated by the History team, so Christina will have been responsible for the book rest & other conservation input.

A man who voluntarily takes on most of the cleaning is an excellent thing. Mine is another of the same ilk.

Worse than that - I spotted a domestic one on the way home this evening 😢 Shops, I kind of get, but can’t people at least wait until Advent before putting trees up at home?

That’s me off down a rabbit hole for what remains of the evening 😀 Must have known about Viscount Taaffe once, but I’d forgotten. That’s my main Irish line, though if we’re actually related to the titled lot it’s probably untraceably far back (family legend to the contrary).

I did my drinking early & unconfined today - afternoon tea (& fizz for the girls 🥂) to round off a lovely day out with my cousin & his partner #ConfinedCocktails

They wouldn’t dare! “Older”, maybe, but you’re a long way off ‘elderly’ 😂

Highest above ground, surely? Doesn’t the cave waterfall in Gaping Ghyll on Ingleborough have a longer drop?

Reminds me of the ginger girl I grew up with, who loved to hide behind floor-length curtains - but invariably left her tail outside 😂

An excellent night in good company.

*warming, even 😀

I am wishing for a warning mug of mulled wine or cider - but not quite enough to brave the interval queue on the off-chance.

That sounds like a direct breach of DDA. At very least, it’s appallingly badly worded. I can see that the constraints of an old/ listed building might make it genuinely difficult or impossible to provide access for people using certain mobility aids, but you can’t cite H&S to just ban them.

Will the world end if you aren’t there for a few days? She’s got carers going in, hasn’t she? Most of the admin & advocacy can be done online or over the phone these days, if it really can’t wait. I wouldn’t suggest more than a few days, but short of an actual crisis, that much seems do-able.

Just do it. More or less whatever tries to get in the way. You need the break, and you’ve more than earned it.

Looking after yourself is really important. You can’t look after others if you’re running on - or beyond - empty yourself. It’s not only ok to take time off, it’s essential.

Not to mention the fact that turning 50 is a major milestone regardless of outlook. You need & DESERVE to acknowledge that.

Jack Daniel’s & Ginger for a change. Am disproportionately tired considering that we haven’t actually done that much today, so we are ordering a pizza & cooking can wait until tomorrow. #ConfinedCocktails

I love your arrangements - very cheering. Thanks for sharing them with us.

I still know my gran’s phone number, though she’s been dead 20 years. She was one of that generation who reeled off her phone number when she answered the phone rather than giving her name, so I must have heard it a lot. I can still ‘hear’ it in her voice.

Today has been nice (I was too warm in long-sleeved T shirt & coat for skiing) but I wouldn’t have contemplated sandals - or going into town without a coat. That’s Edinburgh, though - a bit further north than London!

The fishmonger is still there. As is one of the butchers. But the GOOD game butcher with a popular sideline in haggis went into haggis full time & the shop is now (after several changes) a Costa.
