Another thought, instead of going up Herring Cove Road you could go upPurcells Cove Road and cross to Spryfield by Williams Lake Road. Purcells Cove Road has bike lanes and it is more scenic.

There is no way to avoid the Armdale rotary, which is the most dangerous stretch on a bike. You could dismount at the Armview restaurant and cross at crosswalks and go up the hill on the sidewalk. That’s what I do.

Ironic, isn’t it, that the least safe place to cross the road is at a marked or unmarked crosswalk.
