When @alexismasters.bsky.social gives you farm fresh eggs you farm fresh eggs, you put them to good use!! Improvised a crustless quiche, with turkey sausage, caramelized red onion, spinach, sundried tomatoes, and feta 🥚🐔

Well even though PSU football is a perennial disappointment, my gameday goodies weren't 🏈chicken bacon ranch dip, PSU old fashioned's with PA rye, and a whiteout vanilla creme cake (Side Note: who's down to go in on Franklin's buyout? 😅 💰)

Not sure if it was a complex shelf cloud or an embedded mesocyclone, but the sights in north Norman early this morning were other-worldly 🛸⛈️

Earlier this week I entered a chocolate cherry cake at our local Elizabethtown fair - it didn't end up placing, but I still thought it was too pretty not to share! 🍫🍒

Get you friends whose dessert game is as 🔥 as mine. Our spread has:

1. A stunning fruit tart (from @arianaelena97.bsky.social ) w/ a silky vanilla cream 🍓

2. A luxuriously smooth, cinnamon-kissed flan (from @bxmatilla.bsky.social) 🍮

3. Honey butter cornbread cookies (from yours truly) 🌽

And *whew* did Boise show out - so much great food infused w/ Northwest quirkiness, Basque influences, and a few potatoes for good measure! While the conference over, I know I will cherish these memories - both personally & professionally - for a very long time (5/5) ❤️

A BIG thanks to the amazing AMS & Boise Centre staff, our Mesoscale STAC Committee (
@ams-meso.bsky.social‬), our student presentation judges, and our session chairs who made all of this possible. The connections I made this week, some unexpected, have truly filled my heart to the brim (4/5)

The conference was a delight from start to finish - so many intriguing talks, delivered by everyone from excited undergrads to respected senior scientists. The numerous conversations and community were inspiring, celebrating the victories of my peers and sharing in our collective challenges (3/5)

The months leading up to the conference were a tumultuous whirlwind of abstracts, virtual meetings, changing plans, and roadblocks, compounded by a number of personal matters. But somehow, someway, everything coalesced into a beautiful week in Boise that brought my AMS journey full circle (2/5)

🧵A decade ago, I went to my 1st @ametsoc.org conference. The enormity of the going's on was almost dizzying - a sensory overload for a junior excited to carve out a path in the field. Fast forward to this past week, when I chaired the AMS Mesoscale Conference w/ Dr. Daniel Kirshbaum in Boise (1/5)

Day 1 of #AMS21Meso is in the books! Lots of awesome science shared and discussed, with beautiful Boise weather to boot. Plus, it's always a good day when you get to brainstorm QLCS tornado science with @jimcantore.bsky.social 🌪️proud of the @ams-meso.bsky.social team - onwards to Tuesday!

Happy Pride Month to all my fellow LGBTQ+ friends and allies! My name is Matt Brown, I'm a severe storms researcher who's equal parts ✨ gay ✨ and 🤓 geeky 🤓. I know what it feels like to wonder if the world would be better without you, so this month let us celebrate queer joy and belonging ❤️

On this, the first Mother's Day without our pupper, I gifted my mom a watercolor painting of one of her favorite photos of Zoey and I (from Etsy - I'm not *that* artistically inclined!) She may not be here with us anymore physically, but Zoey will always have a special place in our hearts ❤️
May 11, 2025 at 9:17 PM
But even so, I know she is free from pain now, excitedly meeting the heavenly family members we talked about so often that she didn’t get to meet in her lifetime. Thanks for being a good girl and the best of friends. Until we meet again, Zoey ❤️ (4/4)

As she closed her eyes for the last time yesterday, I hope she knew just how much she was loved. There will be no more excited yelps when I come home on break. No more feeling her hop into bed & nuzzle next to me. No more finding her in my bag w/ plaintive eyes when I would start packing. (3/4)
April 3, 2025 at 10:56 PM
Over the next 12 years, she was there for me through so much – changing majors, my parent’s divorce, 2 moves, 3 degrees, family members passing, a devastating breakup. No matter happened, Zoey was there to drown you in so many kisses that you couldn’t help but smile. (2/4)
April 3, 2025 at 10:56 PM
Yesterday, my best buddy crossed the Rainbow Bridge 🌈 Zoey came to my mom in 2012 – a quiet little puppy sitting amongst her rambunctious siblings at the rescue. I remember sitting in the back seat w/ her on that ride home, trying to comfort her in between confused whimpers (1/4)

Like @cameronjnixon.bsky.social, I've stared at far too many QLCS hodographs, and this one checks the boxes 🧵
✅ Extreme low-level line-parallel shear (> 20 m/s)
⏩ Important for near-surface vorticity seeds
✅ Sufficient line-normal shear (~15 m/s)
⏩ Important for system structure/balance
March 14, 2025 at 5:35 PM
Lots of feelings about tonight's QLCS 🌪 risk. NAM (1st) has ⬆️ low-level SRH than HRRR (2nd), but also has more elevated inflow. Both have enough 0-1 km line-parallel shear to support prolific vortexgenesis, as per my recent work (BAMS paper coming soon!). However... (1/2)

What did I do to deserve such beautiful, supportive friends? Though this last year has had its struggles and pain, these gems have surrounded me with love time and time again and kept me going when I felt like I couldn't go any further. Here's to another year and a new, better chapter of my life ❤️

Hope to see many LGBTQIA+ scientists (and allies!) tonight at the Coriolis Reception (Hilton Riverside Building Port & Starboard rooms, 7:30 to 10pm). Whether you want to reconnect w/ old friends, make some new ones, or learn how to get involved with Coriolis and AMS BRAID - ALL truly are welcome! 🌈
