I've found meeplus to be a good alternative, way nicer quality but similar pricing.

Supposedly it's natural because it mimics the way touch interfaces work (you swipe up to move down on the page), but for like standard desktop computers I think "reversed" is a way better and descriptive name.

So I found out that the reason was that Fedora 42 ships with gcc 15, which uses gnu23 as the default standard. Also learned what CFLAGS are (I'm not a programmer, ok!) and was able to build the mailutils with gnu17 instead, so now I have my precious movemail once again 😊
