Crucial point made here — we should learn from others rather than imagine that everything is new and therefore shocking and impossible to resist.

Equinox swim in the river. Water very low as we have had no rain for 3 weeks. And none today when forecast.

Betrayal is betrayal. I always thought better of America.
Despite U.S. insistence, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy refused to sign a draft agreement to hand over half of his country’s rare earth minerals to American companies in exchange for military support, according to two people familiar with the negotiations

Ukraine balks at signing Trump deal to hand over its mineral wealth
The U.S. and Ukraine are back-and-forthing on a deal to exploit Kyiv’s rare earths in return for Washington’s support.

Our once-a-year-if-lucky-visitation of starlings to the two great sycamores was a blessing yesterday. Their orchestra of sounds was incredible. Maybe a hundred or more.

John Walters gave us a terrific talk with his superb photography at our Village Hall tonight. Sorry if you missed it but I noticed we only had 3 seats left and no more chairs to be had! There were glow worms, Heath Potter wasps, cuckoo bees among other extraordinary creatures.
I am giving a talk this Thursday 6 February 2025 on the Secret World of the Undergrowth featuring leafcutter bees, Beachcomber Beetles, Iberian Spoonwings and Puss Moths at Buckland-in-the-Moor Village Hall near Ashburton, Devon TQ13 7HW at 7.30 pm All welcome.

The outcome of this case will affect every one of us but is barely getting a mention in UK media. Why?

Peaceful protest is a fundemental democratic right. The decision in @libertyhq.bsky.social’s important case is due any time now. This is why I’m standing with them👇

Why are we considered " in line" and with what or whom? I would prefer to be " out of line" in Trump's judgement.

First February swim I hoped would be in the sea at Teignmouth ( less cold than the river) but found it was high tide with a swell, splashing passersby on the promenade. Lost my courage and retreated to the river where the cold was knifesharp but no waves or tide to contend with. 🤣
