Now, I do not wish any ill on my US friends, BUT if the decision goes against him, I do hope the ensuing mayhem is enough to dissuade any US politician from ever flouting the law this egregiously again. Like for centuries...

Canadian engineers wear an iron pinky ring so they don't forget to double-check the calculations. Unlike the guy a century ago whose faulty design caused an iron bridge to collapse. We all tend to learn our lessons the hard way, don't we?

For historical reference, direct their attention to Springsteen's "My Hometown". Doesn't sound like a nostalgic paradise.

As someone who has worked in building and technical regulation for the last 15 years, Yea and Amen. Few people recognize just how much grief and trouble lies behind the "red tape" that the short-sighted complain about.

Excellent work. The double cluster is one of those objects that one observes pretty much every clear night. It never disappoints; there are so many little asterisms and colored stars....

Bigger question is whether a Halifax will ever return to the skies....RCAF Bomber Command museum in Nanton AB is working to restore one to static display.

It's funny how any airplane that has a WW1- era design looks weird without an upper wing. Nonetheless, this is an absolutely beautiful little plane...

That's gross. I've always wondered why people hate on the government when there are insurance companies around. You can make your govt representative's life miserable if you want. Try doing that with an insurance company. First a stonewall, then a blackball.....

Taking refuge in theory while hiding from the obvious impact of donor influence on politics is silly. Looking at history shows how inimical the investor and industry classes are to any serious environmental regulation.

Plus river class frigates and tribal destroyers. It's a geographer's dream......

Not to mention crashing the economy and wiping out the retirement savings of millions. No biggie.

Corvettes were built all over the country ( ok, not ALL the country) But places with access to big water. T-bay, Toronto, various Quebec ports, i think, and the west coast and maritimes, too.

I was referring (jokingly) to travel between Victoria and Vancouver.....I assume you're referring to the MD11 incident. On that, protocol says rotate and go if you lose an engine at or after V1. I doubt they knew how bad it was.
November 9, 2025 at 9:19 PM
Indeed. Not sure they even bothered retracting the undercarriage.

Do you know if it was built in Collingwood? Many corvettes were.

Pretty much identifies the Foundation as the descendants of the people who insisted on a segregated WW2 military - even when doing so obviously detracted from the "lethality" of that same military.....

It's one of those movies that leaves you torn between wanting a sequel and thinking, "No, that was nearly perfect. Leave well enough alone." Guy Ritchie hit the mark with this one. All-time sight gag quip "My jacket's in there!"....

Not a good sign. The Gadsden flag bit was bad enough....

John Oliver's description of FIFA as "cartoonishly corrupt" remains perfectly appropriate. They really are the silliest and yet most horrible organization.

That's one wild historical cranny. Remarkable that some fairly obscure scholars (cranks?) should still reverberate today. Naturally, those entranced by it see themselves as beneficent philosopher kings atop society rather than drudges relegated to a remote 'corporate' farm.

Brilliant! Or at least, reflective....

This is true in normal times, but I suspect the prosecution had 2 objectives. First, force Mr. Dunn to expand his resources in his defence. A fine of sorts. Second, no act of lese-majeste, however small, can be seen to go unpunished.

We can only hope it rises to the height of Minus One. Superficially a kaiju flick, actually a mature meditation on survivor guilt and culturall trauma.
