There's a lot of that's appealing about lone-wolf action: You can plan and act nimbly. The only safety you risk is your own. It's especially appealing in this bleak political moment, where mass collective action seems impossible to mobilize, and heavily repressed by the state. But more importantly, lone-wolf action resonates with the western imagination, playing into the centuries-long settler fantasy of the individual. This tendency can actually stand in the way of building solidarity and class consciousness. Last week's action was a good temperature check on the state of class consciousness. It's good to celebrate the ruling class trembling over fears of another individual act; we've got to also make them tremble over a mass uprising. How much more could we achieve by working together rather than alone? How can we build networks to protect, support and hide each other?
