Yesterday, I had to turn down a housing opportunity for a multi amputee coming out of a nursing home because of the freeze on federal grants. All of Beacon’s housing programs are federally funded. The freeze could put hundreds of children and people with disabilities back into homelessness.

The Republican President just froze all federal contracts, including all the grants that prevent children and adults from becoming homeless. The pause is supposedly temporary while government agencies review contracts to ensure they do not contain any antiracist policies.

Why do tyrants so often choose deeply unqualified people to serve them? Because of their unquestioned loyalty. Those people would not be given wealth or power by any kind of competent system, so their devotion becomes the necessary payment for being lifted beyond their station. Here we are.
