Nyahh, nor do they think Christians come from that part of the world either

Getting them over to travel from Oklahoma was partially due to the work folks at the college radio station I worked at who thought they were pretty awesome. I just wish I had the foresight then to see how big they’d become (I was there mainly for the local yokels)

It’s kinda’ like saying members of your <insert favorite bad sports team of your choice> aren’t really professional sports players because they suck at it.

No human-organized system is automatically good simply because of its existence. Bad humans can ruin ANY system if given the chance

Good Lord - I mean look up church sexual abuse. Then minus out “Catholic”, then “Southern Baptist”. More religions & megachurches pop up.

Gymnast Rachael Denhollander, whose efforts led to Larry Nassar conviction, spoke of her own struggles with her churches. ministrywatch.com/rachael-denh...

Or Malaysia. Yes, Islam is the dominant religion, but bias there tends to occur along nationality lines (Malay tends to get more preference vs Indian vs Chinese vs everyone else)

Agreed. Millions of adherents have essentially filed a patent on what is a “real Christian” and that their patent is more valid than anyone else’s. It makes no sense that anyone is going to claim they’re following a “fake” Christianity

I do a variation on J. Kenji Alt Lopez likes to do: I slice the bagel, but I don’t split it apart before putting it in the toaster. Get the crunch on the outside, and the inside stays at a temp that doesn’t send the cream cheese to melty goo

Weird little history tidbit: founding fathers were split on the action. John Adams & Samuel Adams were all for it, while George Washington & Benjamin Franklin thought it was a step too far (Franklin even thought the perpetrators should compensate the tea company) www.battlefields.org/learn/articl...

Assuming things are somehow put back to 2022 or thereabouts, I’d also argue for a “How Government Works” weekly show or similar. It's been made obvious to me how many really not only don't know what the government does, but also the reasons why it does what it does.
June 9, 2025 at 2:28 PM
This relates to another notion I got disabused of over time: running government like a business.

Businesses go out of business all the time. Your fave bakery going kaput may mean your favorite scone is no more, but a government following the same path is simply disastrous

Exactly this - I wish someone would calculate how much loss on investment this all ends up totaling because I don’t think most people have a clue.
