My little retro computer world... Several weeks of work to design 80 isometric computers from the 1980s and comment on their key specs.
If you'd like to see (and hear about) them, here's the link youtu.be/wQPmPdL5t3Y
Here's the result of my 6 months work on isometric vintage computer design and data gathering.
The result is a visual Timeline of Micro Computer History along with main characteristics and production figures.

This is a CRT close-up of Ultima Underworld running on my IBM PS/2.

This game is among my all time best

Working on a new video & photo shoot project, here's a hint ;)

Photo shot in my studio.
Always going for the real stuff, as opposed to emulation: CRT scanlines, genuine hardware, loading from floppies, using ball mouse and wild joystick!

Look at those beautiful pixels from the CRT display of my Amstrad CPC running Prince of Persia...
Yes, recent emulators can render CRT-like pictures. But in my opinion nothing can replace real vintage hardware for its nostalgic load.
Perfect copies of a painting remain copies.

Such a nice and pleasant welcome title.

Defender of the Crown: magnificent intro graphics and awesome music.

It just looks gorgeous on the sleek Atari ST. So much more than on some modern emulation...

Photo shot in my studio.
On my to-do list of new videos.

Marble Madness, a great classic, running here on the breadbin C64.

Photo shot in my studio.
Real stuff not emulation: CRT scanlines, genuine hardware, loading from floppies, using crude joystick!
Re-creating the same gaming conditions as back then. That's my philosophy.

This was the most futuristic game for us kids in the 1980s.
Incredible graphics and sounds, especially on 16 bit machines, and the unusual feeling of seeing a game coming at you from some alien planet...

This is not some emulator screenshot.
This is a close-up shot from my Commodore 1085 CRT and the Amiga version of Captain Blood.

If you like my artistic work on retro stuff, I think you won't be disappointed in the related video I just made public:

Amstrad CPC version of Barbarian.
The fight is over and the lizard drags away your opponent.

Real stuff not emulation: CRT scanlines, same gaming conditions as back then.
That's my philosophy at Retro Dream

This is how I used to play Dungeon Master back in the day: on the Atari ST, in the dark, oppressive silence... Jumping on my seat hearing the roar of a monster attacking from behind!

Photo shot from my studio.
CRT scanlines only, no emulation, that's my philosophy.

Compare this post with my previous one: many similitudes between this C64 model C released in 1986 and the Amiga 500 released in 1987, both running Arkanoid also released at the same time. Level 5 is a wink to Space Invaders... which was already retro by this time! Pure Nostalgia

Timeless classic: Arkanoid, Amiga.

Battle Chess Atari ST: the Red Queen bares her claws. Zoom in on these wonderful pixels for sheer nostalgia

This is not some "easy" emulator screenshot. This is a close-up photo from my Commodore 1085 CRT showing the intro scene from Prince of Persia. I let you guess which computer version it is... No brainer! Just zoom on those beautiful pixels to dive deep into gaming nostalgia

This is not some "easy" emulator screenshot. This is a capture from my Commodore 1085 CRT and the Amiga version of Defender of the Crown. Zoom on those beautiful pixels!
Aside from a slight shift of colors, a detail shows it's the Amiga not Atari ST version... Will you spot it?

Maybe you'll find this one rather uncommon: Thomson TO7/70 running L'Aigle D'Or, the 1985 blockbuster in France. 40 years, a significant milestone.

Lotus 123 charts on the IBM PS/2.
A taste of #retrocomputing nostalgia.

Lode Runner loads all right from its 5.25" floppy disk on my Apple IIe. Hardware and software were made to last, even if no one thought about using them for #retrogaming 40 years later.
Photo from my studio. Motto: real stuff not emulation: CRT scanlines, genuine #retrocomputing

Double Dragon was another great game to play together with your pal from school... Homework could always wait
September 25, 2025 at 4:15 PM
Barbarian was the first game we played every time there was a pal around.
Let the lizard drag the loser away and shoot in his head like a foot ball!
Seen here running on my Amstrad CPC

The C64 port of Captain Blood was tremendous. It nailed the eerie feel of the original. Planets looked stunning. Smooth scrolling kept it cinematic. Sound effects were efficient. Chat with aliens and hunt clones across a procedurally generated galaxy. All that fit into 64K of RAM
