Been playing a lot more on my #SteamDeck as of late… I forgot how good it feels to hold. The internet clowned on its size when it released, but it’s actually really ergonomic… at least, compared to something like a #nintendoswitch. I’d buy a successor right away, if Valve ever did such a thing

Chronicling my experience playing Touhou for the first time.

First off, WTF, this game is hard as balls. Although, I started with Touhou 6, an apparently pretty difficult one. I could only beat it with extra lives, using all 3 continues…

(Keeping it music-related…) The soundtrack is […]

Interesting start to 2025 for it to be snowing in hot, sunny, "Sunshine State" Florida. Well, I'm enjoying it...

I got around to playing #marvelrivals a bit. Given that I’ve NEVER played any hero shooter before, I actually enjoyed it… wish I’d gotten on board earlier!

After listening to its soundtrack, I felt compelled to play Chrono Trigger… and WOW, it holds up VERY well for a nearly 30-year-old RPG. The real-time combat is surprisingly fluid (even on emulator touch controls), and though I’m not far in, I’m enjoying the story…

🎵 Here's a short track I made for my RPG Maker game. It's the BGM for the first area, which is like the ruins of an old sanctuary. Heavily inspired by Chrono Trigger.

(Maybe I'll post a video of some gameplay soon...)

For Christmas, I got myself a pair of Audio Technica ATH-M50x headphones (left). I have been rocking the very affordable Samson SR850s (right) for years—6 years at this point—to do all of my mixing. (Can't have speakers, unfortunately, nor a treated room.) […]

I wrote up a blog post recapping the music I released in 2024! Testing out a new format for these; you can listen to each and read a short commentary 🙂 Please give it a read!

2024 Retrispective
Welcome to the first and hopefully-not-only annual Retrispective, where I give highlights of the music I’ve composed this year. (Get it? Retrispective? Har har har) Think of it like Spotify...

If you look at my portfolio (website) for this year, it will look very sad, like I’ve only written a few pieces in the past 11 months. This couldn’t be further from the truth! They’ve just all been VGM-style sketches, which I don’t release on their own…

start making a website

I finally got my .music domain after paying a stupid amount of money. Had to screw with namespace settings to add it to Porkbun b/c I can't change DNS settings with the default registrar.

Horrible.

Currently unsure if I'm going to move my site to https://retri.music or not.

SoundCloud testing a new track manager layout makes me nervous. Looks like they have a whole redesign planned, given that there's a working (new) navigation bar and track player inside the demo.

Guys, don't fix what ain't broken. SoundCloud's desktop UI is perfect. Unchaged by 10 years of UI […]

I added a high-contrast mode to my website. To be honest, I don't really know how to tackle accessibility, so this is my first attempt... (before vs. after)

If you regularly enable high-contrast settings, disabled or otherwise, I would appreciate your feedback on this...! https://retri.space

I fear that this may be the most interesting thing I’ve made this year… and I’m not so sure why.

May be that the simplistic MIDI style means I spend more time on composition and less on production/processing? https://www.retri.space/releases/markmaker-2

I’m thinking of adding a button to my website to download a MIDI version of a track, if available. What icon would I even add for that…? Just the MIDI logo? A piano roll?

Say hello to my beloved son, Garrick. He is a staple TTRPG character for me and I have blessed (ruined) many campaigns with him as my tool. I am not a visual artist but I represent him as best as I can.

You can read his biography: https://vortox.miraheze.org/wiki/Garrick

Spent an hour or so the other day trying to get my website to embed properly. Found out that Discord, Twitter, etc. use the Open Graph protocol, so hopefully it works here, too:

I just learned that Tim Berners-Lee @timbl, who is responsible for inventing *the web* (WWW, HTML, HTTP) has joined the fediverse recently… that’s pretty cool.

My next thought was: if you have a Wikipedia page, you should add it to your profile fields, right…? 😂

Think I'm starting to feel more at home on fedi. It's weird, since most online "acquaintances" aren't here, but it just means I interact with random people. Which is... not so bad, actually.

Been sick for a few days and it’s been making my tinnitus so much worse. It’s torture in every quiet moment. 😖

I was thinking today about how much AI tools will influence the way young people learn to do things. For example, GPT has some 'favorite words' that it repeats all the time; if you've used it, you'll know.

Lots of young people are using GPT to write their essays. Will this affect their […]
