Keep an eye out on this brand and this model. If they decide to release a RH drive version, that then opens up other markets such as the UK & Australia - possibly also in 2027.

Based on some of the comments in this review, it will compete with other models selling for twice as much.

If you're thinking of switching to Amber feel free to use my referral code for a $120 credit (for both of us): mates.amber.com.au/4PXKVWFA

The only other alternative is to go off grid.

The good news if you have a big enough home battery and/or EV and you're on a dynamic wholesale tariff through Amber Electric, you may be making enough revenue from trading on the volatility to cover your daily supply charge.

We still need new transmission lines & a decentralised network of battery storage & frequency regulators for a more stable grid. Unfortunately the 30% of costs defined as "network charges" will likely increase over the next 5-10 years.

The great irony in Australia is that whilst supply costs for energy will continue to drop thanks to the RE transition, the network (mainly transmission & distribution) currently isn't up to standard. You can thank decades of neglect & absence of investment since the privatisation of the 90s for that

Despite the "risks" they'll still look after you if your bill exceeds the statutory default offer; it's called their "bill guarantee".

Over about 2 years with monthly billing it's kicked in 3 times for me (no battery).

The price barrier was the main impediment to mass adoption as recently as 6 years ago when most EVs cost at least twice that much.

Now there'll be a choice of 5 models priced between $20K to $40K and probably a dozen more to be released to Aussies in that (small EV) market in the next year or so.

The pie chart should place the (red) 3.9% slice for Gas on the RHS since it's non-renewable. That would make the renewable/ non-renewable split about 49/51.

However having pointed that out, technically we could add back 0.9% net to batteries since that's a surplus. Back to 50/50.
