These findings support the expanding role of HEMS in equitable, timely care for trauma patients. 🚁 This study reaffirms the vital contribution of pre-hospital teams in transforming outcomes for the most severely injured. #TraumaResearch #PreHospitalCare 7/7

Balancing operational challenges like scene safety with the need for rapid interventions is critical. By improving systems and case selection, we can maximise the benefits of pre-hospital RSI while minimising risks. #TraumaCare #HEMS 6/7

What does this mean for practice? PHRSI highlights the operational importance of HEMS in trauma systems, especially in rural areas. Continued investment in training, protocols, and systems will help balance the risks and benefits of these interventions. #PHEM #HEMS 5/7

Patients who received PHRSI had higher injury severity scores but achieved similar mortality outcomes compared to EDRSI patients. This shows HEMS teams deliver life-saving care to the most critically injured, often in challenging environments. #TraumaCare #whywedoresearch 4/7

We compared RSI performed pre-hospital (PHRSI) by HEMS to Emergency Department RSI (EDRSI). PHRSI was performed 20 minutes faster (median 64 mins vs. 84 mins). This time-saving advantage ensures critical care reaches patients sooner. #PreHospitalCare #HEMS 3/7

Trauma patients often need rapid sequence induction (RSI) of anaesthesia to secure their airway. Delays can lead to worse outcomes, but only 25% of UK trauma patients meet the 45-minute guideline for RSI. Our research aimed to explore this problem. #TraumaResearch 2/7

🔍 Our data was collected prior to the #JRCALC HI update, but supports flexible guidelines tailored to older adults' unique needs. They also highlight the importance of improving non-ED care options. Thanks to all who contributed to this impactful research! 🩺 #PrehospitalCare #HeadInjuryResearch 5/5

🚨 High conveyance rates (60–70%) reflect the challenge of balancing ED benefits vs. risks (e.g., infection, long waits). Clinicians weigh patient safety, social support & holistic needs, but confidence in alternative care pathways is low. #EMSResearch #OlderAdults 4/5

💊 Anticoagulants, frailty, and injury mechanisms are big red flags for clinicians. BUT assessing asymptomatic patients remains tricky—making "to transport or not" decisions more nuanced and challenging. #TBI #ClinicalDecisionMaking 3/5

🧐 Clinicians feel confident using guidelines (like NICE & JRCALC) to decide on hospital transport for older adults with head injuries. BUT they also find the rules too rigid, making it tough to tailor care to individual needs. #AmbulanceCare #PatientCentred 2/5
