Unsurprisingly, the 'Surprise Question' in major trauma patients does not predict mortality reliably. The question had a PPV of only 30.5% but a high NPV of 95.1%. Its utility in identifying patients for palliative care remains limited - even in older adults! #EMS #majortrauma #PHEM

🚑 Just published in British Paramedic Journal! Our study explores how ambulance clinicians make decisions when treating older adults with head injuries. 🧠 Falls, frailty & anticoagulants add complexity. Here's what we found 👇 1/5 #EMS #HeadInjury

Interesting paper on NHS nurse and doctor retention: A small turnover increase, like 20 nurses or 7 doctors leaving in a month, could mean 239 extra deaths monthly across NHS hospitals. Retaining staff saves money and lives by ensuring consistent, high-quality care.

Interesting paper on how austerity and underinvestment—particularly in primary and social care—have left #NHS services struggling to keep up with the demands of an ageing, increasingly unwell population. A reminder of the long-term impacts of policy decisions. www.nejm.org/doi/full/10....
Lessons from England’s National Health Service | NEJM
The NHS in England has historically delivered high quality at low cost, but recently, its performance has declined. The challenges facing the NHS hold potential lessons for the United States.
