My 2nd #PhD supervisor is leaving. This is very sad, as she is so nice and encouraging. 😉

Got feedback from my supervisors. Moving through the stages of #PhD grief;
Can't bear to look; feel over whelmed; want to give up; cheer myself up (buy shoes); and finally actually do something constructive!

Welcome back to Nature or No Nature!

Rachel Reeves, your own experts say nature-friendly farming is vital for our food security, wildlife, & climate.

Yet we hear you're set to slash the very funding it relies on.

With the clock ticking, and our future to play for, can you answer this question...

AI doesn’t help you work less or get paid more, but does destroy the environment and climate.
Study looking at AI chatbots in 7,000 workplaces finds 'no significant impact on earnings or recorded hours in any occupation'
Despite AI’s promise to revolutionize white-collar work, most workers are using it sparingly—or hiding it from their boss.

In my retreat they mentioned a saying "when movement is still, the stillness moves." I thought of pond dipping; scoop up muddy water, and see nothing, but when the mud settles, then the creatures become clear and their moves obvious.

Does anyone else feel they no longer fit in a non-academic arena?
...OK, so you referenced a study, but how about the critique or alternative? What does this really tell us?
Are you just confirming your preconceptions?

Feeling very confused!

I'm at a nature and mindfulness retreat and finding myself irritated. This morning was about awe and fractals, which are lovely, but are sanctified: Nature in the image of humans. Nothing addresses human destruction, or encourages action for nature. It feels too one sided, empty. #natureconnection

I've signed up for a week's retreat in mindfulness and nature. We introduced ourselves today. I said I'm on this retreat partly to support a PhD in wellbeing and nature and partly to escape a PhD in wellbeing and nature... #phdchat #phdsky #academicsky #natureconnection

Yesterday I listened to pdf papers on #natureconnection.
I walked through a #horse field causing no interest. Today I listened to a pdf on #equinetherapy. This was the interest.

Today's #research involved listening to pdf papers and making notes whilst walking. Nice reflection of changing seasons. #phdchat #phdsky #academicsky #academia #researchsky

Just booked a nature based mindfulness retreat. It is relevant to my #PhD and not just time away, honest!
It will contribute to sessions that focus on nature or animals to further explore the impact of both on human well being. #PhDsky #academicsky #academicchatter

I have banned myself from writing for 2 weeks. I need to read (although in my case, listen to) research articles, assimilate, and consider. This involves a lot of walking around the garden! #academicsky #phdsky #phdchat

Happy 99th birthday to the man who gave voice to the wild. 🎉

Sir David Attenborough, thank you for a lifetime dedicated to the natural world, and for sharing its story with wisdom, wonder, and grace.

You've inspired generations to fall in love with nature.

Student complaint: my assignment is late as I forgot it. Y offered me a way where I could get a mark for it, instead of 0 for a late assignment. You are not sympathic, so I need a new tutor.

Been at a journalling day today. The conversation made me wonder does believing that Covid doesn't exist take a lack of imagination, as you can't imagine the excessive business of death, or does it take an over active imagination because of the cognitive gymnastics you have to do.

I'm a researcher primarily in adaptation. We are not even adapted to where the climate is today.

If you think you can seawall your way through a 4°C planet, you are straight up dreaming.

Mitigation AND adaptation, or you end up with way more of option 3 for dealing with climate change: suffering.
I’m am adaptation scientist and here’s what I had to say about this—many years ago already.

Went for a lovely walk on the Essex coast today. Watched turnstones throwing sticks and a grey seal. I have a conundrum; my phone camera has little zoom, but it is with me. A better camera might be left at home. So do i get a better camera, or just make do. #seals #birdwatch #nature #dogwalk

Right now, the UK Government is considering cuts to the nature-friendly farming budget – the biggest pot of funding for nature.

Here’s why that would be a disaster for farmers, food security, and wildlife.
