My house companion of 10 years, Little Black Kitty, died last weekend at age 10 or 11. She never talked about her age. She was too young to die.Value your four-legged friends. They sure make life better.
The fence is finally down at Overton Park, and the Old Forest Trail is officially open!

Proud that this was made possible by the $3M grant award I secured for Overton Park & the Memphis Zoo. This is one of Memphis’ last stretches of true urban forest—these upgrades will support it for generations.

Children, seniors and people with disabilities are having their food assistance delayed.

Air traffic controllers and other essential federal workers have all been working without pay. Their families feel it. People have lost their jobs.

And Senate Republicans want to give their colleagues $500,000
REPUBLICAN Rep. @repchiproy is rightly APPALLED that hagerty & @marshablackburn and others snuck a provision to let senators sue taxpayers for $500,000 MINIMUM for being investigated as part of Trump’s insurrection into the government funding bill.

Insane corruption.

I’m voting NO on today’s Continuing Resolution.

The Senate's "Republican compromise" doesn't extend the ACA tax credits we've been fighting for that help millions afford coverage.

We don't win by surrendering on people's health — one of the most important civil rights. They should have stood firm.
November 12, 2025 at 9:38 PM
The Senate caved.

We had the upper hand, the public was behind us because they knew we were fighting for their health care, we came into the week with electoral victories nationwide — and 8 Senators still caved.

You don’t win by backing down when you’re ahead, or by giving a bully what he wants.

On #VeteransDay we honor all who’ve served — from WWI to Vietnam, to a new generation of veterans building their futures here at home.

We’ve made progress expanding VA care and benefits through bills like the PACT Act, but we owe it to every veteran to keep pushing for more.

Trump is weaponizing travel disruptions to pressure Democrats into accepting healthcare cuts.

DOT Secretary Duffy can call it a "safety measure" all he wants—everyone knows it's politics. They took paychecks from workers, they took food from kids, now they want to disrupt your life.

Trump filed an appeal JUST YESTERDAY on a court order mandating him to fully fund SNAP.

And they expect you to believe it's the Democrats fault?

It's pretty clear who's trying to take food away from children, seniors & people with disabilities—it's the ones actively denying them food assistance.
The Trump administration is now literally *fighting* to deny food to 42 million people, more than a third of them children.

Read that again.

Flights are being cut because the GOP shutdown left air traffic controllers unpaid. They’re doing their jobs under impossible stress while Trump plays politics to push budget cuts.

Five weeks into the GOP shutdown and Republicans still refuse to negotiate.

They’d rather starve poor people and kids who depend on SNAP than restore the health care tax credits that help 81,000 people in Memphis afford coverage—all to pay for tax breaks for some of the wealthiest people on earth.

🚨BREAKING: SNAP must be paid NOW.

This is what we've been pressing for, but it’s not over. Trump was trying to use these people as hostages by taking away their food—he has a penchant for cruelty.

We have to keep the pressure on & make sure this administration follows through. Lives depend on it.

You have to ask: why keep the House locked during a shutdown?

We could vote to fund SNAP, pay our troops, reopen government.

But Speaker Johnson knows once we’re back, Democrats will have the votes to swear in Adelita Grijalva—and release the Epstein files.

That’s why we’re in recess.

I’ve been in DC nearly all week. Haven’t seen a single one of my Republican colleagues.

The GOP shut down the government to protect tax cuts for billionaires—and now Speaker Johnson’s literally locked the doors so we can't even vote to feed families on SNAP, or pay our troops and federal workers.
October 30, 2025 at 5:34 PM
690k Tennesseans are on the verge of losing SNAP in the Republican Shutdown, and the GOP won't even call the House back into session.

Meanwhile, Gov. Lee is sitting on a $2 BILLION rainy-day fund that could help keep families fed—but says he won't spend a dime.

I'm urging him to reconsider ⬇️
