And the tragedy and fear that the anime adaptation explores with Yuri is built on this doubt that is struck in the heart of anyone who has ever been displaced. You are not human. You are not real. You're taking the place of someone who is real. There is no future for you, and you should not be here.

"Are you a human?" is the same question as "Do you deserve to live?" because what is inhuman is deceptive, is unreal, shouldn't exist. People see the story of Gnosia through a theme of "transhumanism" but it's not about people who wish to be more than human. Being definitely human would suffice.
