I grew up in coal country in the US and a lot of places have a history of intentionally mispronouncing the names of towns to help identify Pinkertons or union busters or just non-locals.

I hate the way fruits are marketed in stores. You see a huge $2.49 and then you find out it's $2.49 a pound and it's actually $6 for the package.
