it's kind of incredible to me how it stabilizes around 8 right around integration and pretty much stays there forever more with very little variation, you can pretty much set your clock to about 8 below average batters on each team's roster
then contrast that with the one for pitchers

this graph is a plot of all of the seasons of NL/AL baseball since 1876 and how many below average hitters/fielders by bWAR there are that year divided by the number of teams to account for expansion
so basically - on average, how many below-replacement non-pitchers did each team employ every year
