My other traditional year-end playlist: the non-2025 stuff that was either new to me or that I found out that I had been massively under appreciated .

Threads has to stop crap like this. So obviously AI and each post has thousands or even tens of thousands of likes. And it was served up to me in my feed! If the algorithm can’t detect this, what good is it?

From my completely-unnecessary Google One year in review email comes a, uh, interesting way of visualizing "very slightly less than half". Data viz folk: your jobs are still safe.

I saw this AI slop this morning and I called it a Flat White Shark and I’ve been patting myself on the back all day for that one.

We’re fostering a couple puppies and whenever I see them gamboling around, I sing “I thought it was a puppy palace, puppy palace” to the tune of Lily Allen’s “Pussy Palace”, so there’s your clean version, Lily.

Going to start saying “this movie is sweat” as a compliment.

Walking around while my daughter takes horseback riding lessons is a little fraught when it’s in the same spot as Markoff’s Haunted Forest. Never know what you’ll find around a corner.

Come on. Clean up after yourselves, bats.

My second reading of Cloud Atlas is hitting awfully hard in these days.

I’ve come to disagree with this line of thinking. I don’t think said annoying lefties are shifting people to support fascism. People setting their views simply in opposition to the people they find annoying are not thinking deeply and are going to be swayed long before the annoying people show up.

This is niche, but every time (which is always) ChatGPT ends an answer with "Would you like me to...", it reminds me of the episode of Entourage where Eric is constantly being pitched ideas by an aged Hollywood vet who keeps asking:

So many anti-AI people get confused between algorithms and AI. If AI is done as actual artificial intelligence, it’s going to give the facts. If it’s manipulated to give certain answers, it’s not AI.

I keep looking at this playlist thinking that, given enough time, it will eventually make sense, but it still does not.

If you’ve ever read The Fifth Risk, this is the kind of thing you don’t wonder about.

While I hope everyone sees this post of Yvette Hoffman’s, it also strikes me as self evident that the decision to show usernames instead of display names is completely insane. Such a horrific and personal post reduced to the available username. Get it together @threads.
