Right now feels like the first 15 minutes of a Cold War-era nuclear war movie, where the news reports are coming fast and furious just before the big, frantic announcement that is both expected and horrifying.

“We will be holding here at Takoma. There is a fire at Brookland.” Wonderful start to the day.

You don't need a huge amount of history knowledge to know that it's a small step from "we're going to need more military power to defend against these belligerent threats" to "hey, now that we have all this weaponry...you know what we could do?"

If you want to see the best, most (literally) breathtaking acting performance in years, that’s Matthew Macfadyen in Death By Lightning. Absolutely spectacular.

This is one of those cultural moments that is massively misremembered. Dean was losing and was trying to rally his supporters and the yell was so clearly pathetic and desperate that it was an immediate joke. He was not in any way shunned or “excommunicated”. He just lost, which he was already on […]

New Year's resolution for 2026: FINALLY, after all these years, clearing my schedule so that all I do is zoom a zoom zoom zoom and a poom poom.

From my completely-unnecessary Google One year in review email comes a, uh, interesting way of visualizing "very slightly less than half". Data viz folk: your jobs are still safe.

This playlist is fascinating, because it's about 75% the songs and type of music that I absolutely love and 25% of the most cloying and grating shit imaginable. It's a fine line! https://buff.ly/oGoMYyx

We’re fostering a couple puppies and whenever I see them gamboling around, I sing “I thought it was a puppy palace, puppy palace” to the tune of Lily Allen’s “Pussy Palace”, so there’s your clean version, Lily.

Everyone from Downton Abbey to Stranger Things is marketing with “this is the absolute last one, we swear, no more after this, PROMISE”
