I'm on the side of "never too late to learn something for the love of it" but there are limits depending on what your goals are. Are they trying to pivot their career into games from nothing, or is it a hobby? How much time do they have? Do they have a family that depends on their income? Etc

The game is mainly a string of more tightly controlled linear levels so this one in particular is pretty unique in giving the player a lot of freedom to go wherever.

I switched to Linux Mint (from Windows) in December 2024 and haven't looked back. The main thing I miss is a good Photoshop alternative, and to this day I haven't really found one. So I still use a Macbook for that... otherwise very happy with Linux. Both Blender and Godot run beautifully.

Ah gotcha. I'm currently experimenting with some workflow stuff that involves painting the new object on its own UVmap and then baking everything to another new UVmap that includes the new mesh. But not ideal.
