Final thought: I know I’ll be waiting a long time for it, but as long as Kojima Productions are happy and healthy I’m happy to wait.

Good art can come from anywhere, but I tend to feel the love & passion shine through more from motivated, well cared for artists who have something they need to say.

CQC - No Kojima Productions stealth title is complete without hand-to-hand combat. MGSV is probably the most complete expression of this idea, which makes sense (Sam Bridges isn’t a super soldier). But Physint likely marks a return or an evolution of the CQC system.

Base of operations - A concept from MGSV and DS2 that I could see easily ported over. A newer twist on the idea could be where the player is forced to relocate/move if their enemies run counter-ops or are discovered if they stay in place for too long.

If Kojima and company were willing to revisit this, I could see a vast map of warring factions the player could balance their allegiances/loyalties to balanced against their mission needs.

I hope extra objectives from MGSV make a return. Being able to replay missions differently for different rewards would be fantastic.

One feature of MGS4 that didn’t fully gel with me was influencing the theater to war by supporting (or abandoning) rebels forces to the PMCs.

I learned to love Death Stranding, so I hope the moment-to-moment terrain navigation remains intact along with its cargo inventory system.

I think it’s a great way to add new types of gameplay (imagine being chased by enemies scrambling after you, slipping on player created oil surfaces, etc.)

I’m assuming the game will feature intelligence gathering with costumes/disguises (a la the MGS3 camo system) for mission areas/places of interest.

I’m thinking “build out the mission areas” map type of stuff.

Hopefully the game will find a way to make tailing missions more interesting than MGS4!

Back to the book, my original interest started with James Cameron snapping the rights for an adaptation. I am wholly unsure if he’s directing but it’s pretty far outside his typical aesthetics. Which would be pretty exciting, as I consider James Cameron the best Western action filmmaker today.

Work reading consists of digesting as fast as possible and responding in a timely and appropriate fashion.

It’s efficient, succinct, and purely antithetical to how I engage with reading outside of a professional setting.

Too many places gone already, too much pain burned across our city. But I promise that this is not the end of our happiness and joy but the prologue of our resilience and triumph. LA is made by us, and we’re not going anywhere.

Many of my defining moments were in LA and I am determined to say that my greatest moments to come will be there. The person I am is simply not possible without LA. I fell in love three times, had my heart broken many times more, and started to become that better man I always want to be there.

Might do a cranberry compound butter in lieu of sauce next year. But then again, thinking of pivoting to a whole different Thanksgiving concept next year to keep it interesting.

Definitely still enjoy the sou vide turkey breast and koji-cured turkey confit. Would marinate the turkey in the homemade ship koji a bit longer to get the wonderful flavor locked in better. Would definitely de-emphasize the potatoes since the pandesal went off very well.

Major lessons learned: Need to clear fridge and freezer during month of October to accommodate significant marinades and cook ahead items. Made several items a few days in advance that saved me a tremendous amount of time on the big day.

Food mill was very helpful here, though definitely was too adherent to recipe and should have stuck to my instincts.

The gnocchi “poutine” was a chore to make but delicious. Subbed mozzarella for the cheese curds for price and availability considerations. Made a ton of gnocchi out of a 7.3 lb bag of potatoes that were baked off with mozz, and topped with gravy. Originally wanted to do gnocchi alla sorrentina.

The sourdough pandesal was such a hit that we should have made a lot more. The burnt scallion compound butter I made tasted great, though a sweeter flavor profile would have complimented the pandesal better. Maybe honey or panutsa.

Given it’s my second year with these turkey recipes, I’ve certainly gotten better at breaking down the bird. I make turkey broth out of the carcass and wind up using it for soup or gravy later on. I definitely should have started the koji ferment earlier so I could marinate a touch longer.

The main thrust of the menu was sou vide turkey breast, koji-cured turkey confit, crispy turkey skin, mushroom dashi gravy, and gnocchi “poutine” (in lieu of mashed potatoes). My partner did an amazing job with the sourdough pandesal, cranberry sauce, cranberry tart, and pumpkin bar.

There are a number of other factors at play here (i.e. ticket price inflation and streamer licensing deals) but until audiences consistently reject them live action remakes will persist.

5) (cont.) That might be due to how online discourse and social media works, but I imagine it’s also an easier marketing lift to sell a new, high budget (shiny) safe thing to audiences than a low-to-mid budget new idea that may or may not play with audiences.
