I caught Evan Friss on the @roadtonow.bsky.social podcast talking about his book. I immediately borrowed it from the library and now I want to open a book shop! This from someone that uses the local library and rarely buys a book. There’s just something romantic about the little book shop #booksky

Great Scott! This was a fun listen and the perfect primer before seeing the movie in theaters this weekend. Any BTTF fan knows how MJF split time with Family Ties while filming the movie and he provides even more detail of how chaotic life was and a behind the scenes look at making the iconic film

James by Percival Everett.
I maybe should have familiarized myself with The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn before jumping into a reimagining of it. There is a humor to it but it is also brutally honest depicting slavery. Fast paced, thought provoking and worth the read.

The God of the Woods is engrossing but often loses momentum with changing perspectives and character development. It’s an elaborate mystery with great writing that I enjoyed overall but sometimes just felt too long.

I picked up Sea of Tranquility because of how much I loved Station Eleven. I wasn’t so sure what I was getting into at first but was quickly captivated (once again) by Emily St. John Mandel’s writing. Adding The Glass Hotel to my to-read list!

The One by John Marrs was wildly unpredictable and I think that's what made it so good. The writing wasn’t anything special and the stories could be a bit over the top, but I could not put this down!

In searching for my next read I came across the short story Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan. I wasn’t expecting a Christmas setting but what an incredible story packed into
this quick read. I’m amazed when an author can convey so much in so little time. 2/2

I’ve been looking forward to reading My Friends by Fredrick Backman. Such a beautifully story and quite possibly his best to date. I’m not articulate enough to express just how brilliant it is but his prose strikes all the right notes for me.

Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister grabbed me right out of the gate! I’m a sucker for anything to do with time travel and this was an interesting take on that. Probably took a little too long to wrap up but very enjoyable thriller.

We Solve Murders by Richard Osman felt like a novelization of an average network tv action show. Lighthearted, fun, a few jokes but with shallow characters. This is a jet setting whodunit that tries too hard with too many characters and took too long to wrap up.

I Hope This Finds You Well - Natalie Sue.
As an introvert working in an office, the premise was all too relatable but unexpectedly had more emotion and depth beyond the dry sense of humor of the main character. Not what I expected but enjoyed it.

The Voided Man by Anthony Dean is Project Hail Mary meets the Bobverse turned into a Disney cartoon without depth. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it for what it was: a fast lighthearted read that manages to pull you in if you can suspend disbelief.

The main character's snark drew me in immediately! She spoke my language. This was a fun, small town who-done-it mystery that I had a hard time putting down. I don't typically like podcasts interwoven into the narrative but this one worked.

After reading Table for Two I realized Evelyn Ross was a character from Rules of Civility. I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy a novel about a woman living in romanized NYC in the late 1930s but I adore Amor Towles’s style and this was an enjoyable, immersive read.

Orbital by Samantha Harvey

Not what I was expecting. No plot or character development and difficult to stay engaged especially for only having 207 pages. Beautiful but boring.

The Midnight Feast by Lucy Foley.
This was just kind of meh for me. The continual POV and timeline changes were distracting and constant foreshadowing felt gimmicky. An overly complicated story with underwhelming twists. 3⭐️

Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar was on my list based on year end “best of” lists. I agree with the sentiment that you can tell it was written by a poet. Beautiful prose but the plot was lacking. Still interesting enough for 4⭐️

This was my first Lisa Jewell read. I didn’t love the documentary excerpts and it dragged on a little more than needed given the title basically gives away the twist. Dark and fast paced psychological thriller. 3.75⭐️

I've had this on my to-read list for awhile but just wasn't sure about it. I'm glad I didn't read it during Covid, but I also should not have waited so long to read it. Enjoyed the depth of the story and the characters intertwined. Beautifully written!

A little slow to start and teetering on the edge of ridiculous, but it sucked me in once the twists and turns started. Quick, easy thriller.
