I feel like there may be no more demonstrative example of how my video game tastes have changed over the decades than the fact that when Final Fantasy XII first came out, I hated and didn’t understand it, and now it might just be my favorite FF.

Read through the Beatty speech about mass media in Fahrenheit 451 with my 11th graders this morning and have been thinking a lot about the exact ideas expressed here. The 1984 references are obviously apt, but 451 might be an even better depiction of the anti-literacy of our moment.
I am under 35. All of my higher-ed teaching experience was within grad school so fairly recent. I am not some crusty boomer. And I have seen this. It has gotten worse! Far worse!

Feeling real bleak today seeing how thoroughly, beyond this current administration, the American media and business culture at large embrace and normalize fascism. Not a new revelation at all, to be clear, just feels particularly stark at the moment.

Seems that the spirit bomb we were charging up on Friday went off course and hit Rudy instead. Eh, I’ll take it.

I know a lot of you have already heard or read about BDS Movement's call against Microsoft, and felt weird and bad about it all, but decided to move forward as normal because of some degree of ambiguity.

"What service is Microsoft providing?"

Here it is, clear as day. A direct line to death.

Trying to come up with an explanation for my black eye less embarrassing than “Nazi Throuple drama”

“Yeah man, that 5 year old packs a punch”

Man…Lynch was arguably the most important artist to me. His vision, his wisdom, his refusal to compromise, his influence that can be felt nearly everywhere. He just feels like the root of so much of what I love. Hard to believe he’s not with us anymore. His work will live forever.

Idk what I did to make the Bluesky algorithm think that I’m a boomer Resistance Lib, but I would like it to know that I am not.

*Medical industry gorges itself on the blood of the sick and the poor*

Capitalists: Impressive profits, let’s all keep up the hard work!

*People cheer when one of the bloodsuckers gets killed*

Capitalists: What have we become,
The brazen murder of a CEO in Midtown Manhattan—and the cheering reaction to his execution—amounts to a blinking-and-blaring warning signal for a society that has become already too inured to bloodshed, @adriennelaf.bsky.social writes. theatln.tc/ZRcsrreK

Literally earlier this week I got a random itch and reinstalled Half-Life 2 and observed that the UI was tiny on my 4K monitor, and thought “huh, maybe I’ll come back and try to figure out a workaround after I finish Metaphor.” Turns out they just patched it in the big update! 20 years old, damn.

I can’t believe how rarely I used block on the other site. I’m using it constantly here and feel so much better for it. Just saw Brianna Wu announce her arrival here in typically insufferable fashion, and was just like, “No thank you!” and blocked. Refuse to give space to that shit anymore.

I don’t really expect it to last, but man, the vibe shift from the other site to here is palpable. My feed is a bunch of people excited about finally reconnecting outside the most toxic place on the internet.
