what i think most people don't understand is that defense spending is not actually high--in fact, it is *near record lows* as a percent of gdp. and we're not living in the end of history anymore--we're headed into a new era of instability and great power conflict.

so far the only explanation i've seen that doesn't smack of "if only she'd listen to me she would have won" is "global discontent with incumbents because of inflation and post-pandemic malaise + toxic information environments"

My one takeaway from this election is that we need liberal autocrats.

We need FDR back out there. The electorate is full of barely sentient chimpanzees and they need to be corralled into making the correct choices through mass politics and propaganda.
