I have also never seen a movie whose plot is so artificially driven by news reports.

I'm sure it would make a ton but question would be, would it make enough for the studios if they're only getting half? I could see in a few years superhero movies becoming so diminished they'd consider it.

If i were them I'd do three movies pitting dc vs marvel teams: avengers vs jla, suicide squad vs defenders then maybe green lantern vs guardians. As a fourth movie, have all the teams join together to fight some giant cosmic baddie, just like in the comics.

They'll probably position it as "what the fans want" but we'll know that like in publishing it represents a desperate move for a dying genre. Will i buy a ticket though? No doubt about it.

Similar conditions may exist with superhero hero films. They're no longer guaranteed blockbusters-even marvel-and that's likely to only get worse. I could easily see WB and marvel teaming up in a few years to give us Justice League vs Avengers or whatever.

In print the companies only crossed over when the market got truly desperate. It was and is a hail Mary. First time in the mid-70s when newsstand sales were disappearing, second in 90s amidst the speculator collapse, third is now when monthly superhero comics r continuing a slow slide into oblivion
