had a cheatsheet of phrases to use when i marked mistakes & suggested corrections, just so i wouldn't come off too strong and rude.

it's just very human, all text we create is very personal, even when it's for school or work etc. and to think how cruel and harsh some of these assholes are to fics.

yeah.. like i used to proofread other people's thesis papers on the side for a little extra money when i was studying and even then i had to be super careful how i approached the mistakes. even when i was literally *paid* to correct any mistakes in the text. and not even the content, just grammar.

borders on elitist and ableistic gatekeeping and mockery. you know, spitting on peasants from our ivory towers kind of vibes.

but then again, shouldn't be surprised that ppl with nothing under their belts have no idea how critiques actually work.

couldn't agree more. studied linguistics & literature in uni and one of the first things drilled into our brains on the first courses was that we should absolutely n e v e r critique other people's texts unless they asked for it. not only bc it's incredibly rude and uncalled for but also bc it often

no yeah agree. also practically none of these asshats insisting that they have a right to criticize fanworks and the writers just have to take it have actually no idea how you even write a good critique 😭 shit's not easy

yup. and now this shit has been flying around for a couple years and so far eu has not shut it down. apparently they're going to investigate it at some point but tbh idk when that is 🤷‍♀️ though imo it goes directly against eu's own gdpr so idk
